1. 22nd Polish Institute in the world opens in Japan
Polish Institutes go beyond the boundaries of Europe. On 17 November, by the power of a decision by Minister Radosław Sikorski, the gala opening of a new Polish Institute with official seat in Tokyo, the first unit of this type in Asia, took place. Setting up the PI in Tokyo comes as a response to the growing interest of the Japanese people in the Polish cultural and historical achievements. |

4. New York discussion devoted to Witold Pilecki
The Polish Cultural Institute in New York recently co-organized a debate devoted to the report by Captain Witold Pilecki published in English as part of the book “The Auschwitz Volunteer: Beyond Bravery”. Prof. Timothy Snyder and Terry Tegnazian, representing the Aquila Polonica publishing house from Los Angeles, took part in a heavily attended panel discussion held at the Museum of Jewish Heritage in New York on 9 January 2013. |
5. Polish cinema conquers Berlin
This April, the German capital will host the eighth edition of filmPOLSKA, one of the biggest festivals of Polish cinema outside Poland, organized by the Polish Institute in Berlin. The programme features over one hundred movies and includes new Polish cinema, retrospectives devoted to individual themes and authors, the art of cinematography, workshops on film direction, educational events and an exhibition. |

10. “They risked their lives” exhibition on view in Austria
The Polish Institute in Vienna is organizing a premiere exhibition on Poles who saved Jews during the German occupation of Poland. The vernissage is the result of collaboration between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Polin Museum of the History of Polish Jews in Warsaw. |
