At the request of Poland a meeting of deputy ministers of education of Poland and Lithuania was held on Thursday in Vilnius. Polish Deputy Minister Mrs Ewa Dudek met Mrs Genoveita Krasauskienė, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Lithuania.

E. Dudek referred to the situation of Polish schools.  “We are concerned about the situation of the Polish minority in Lithuania,” - said E. Dudek.  “Changes, made in the education system of Lithuania in 2011, led to the fact that graduates of Polish schools in Lithuania are less and less able to study at Lithuanian public universities,” - added the Polish Deputy Minister. The situation of Vilnius Joachim Lelewel School and Władysław Syrokomla School, which accreditation process has been stalled,  was also discussed during the meeting. Deputy Minister G. Krasauskienė assured that the ministry will prepare a reply in this case. It will be presented to schools in the near future.

“I hope that this decision will be positive”, - said the deputy minister E. Dudek. She also proposed the resumption of the working group composed of representatives of national minorities, which was founded by the Lithuanian Ministry of Education and Science in 2011.
