Poland welcomes the formation of a new state on the African continent, a sovereign state of the Republic of South Sudan. Polish society has consistently supported the aspirations for freedom of the South Sudanese. We share their joy and enthusiasm about their newly-proclaimed independence.

We hope that the newly-formed state will be an active and constructive member of the international community, as well as a promotor of global peace and security, human rights and democratic values. Poland stands ready to share with the Republic of South Sudan its experiences of building a modern and democratic state.

On this historic moment, we join the other Member States of the European Union in congratulating the South Sudanese and wish the new state and its citizens a lot of success.

The independence ceremony was attended by the Polish delegation headed by MFA Undersecretary of State Krzysztof Stanowski. The delegation is to hand the official message of the Polish President Bronisław Komorowski to the South Sudanese President Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit.
