Enhancing Polish-US cooperation in the energy industry as well as energy security were the focus of a meeting between Undersecretary of State Katarzyna Kacperczyk and Christopher A. Smith, US Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of for Fossil Energy. The talks were held in Warsaw on 29 October.

“Exports of energy resources from the US, including LNG, may play a key role in Europe’s log-term energy security,” emphasised Deputy Minister Kacperczyk. “Such exports will also serve as an excellent occasion for strengthening trans-Atlantic ties. We believe that once the United States decides to allow exporting its oil and gas it can prove itself in an important role of a keeper of stability of global energy markets,” added the deputy chief of Polish diplomacy.

The officials also talked about the exploration of shale gas and oil in Poland and studies in this field carried out by the US Department of Energy. They took note of the continuing talks between the EU and US on the free trade area agreement (TTIP), energy issues being one of key negotiation areas.
