“We welcome the first visit to Poland by a representative of the Timorese government in 12 years. Our country has always supported the Timorese people in its aspiration to build an independent and democratic state,” Deputy Minister Katarzyna Kacperczyk said at a meeting with East Timor’s Deputy Foreign Minister Roberto Soares on 12 May.

Deputy Minister Soares thanked Poland for its development assistance to Timor. The talks covered the development of bilateral relations, as well as the situation in Southeast Asia and the European Union. The interlocutors emphasized that Poland and Timor share not only the love of freedom, but also the attachment to Christian values, and great respect for John Paul II. The East Timorese government official outlined the cabinet’s plans to reform administration, finances, and transport infrastructure. The Timorese delegation will also hold meetings at the ministries of economic development, sport and tourism, and national defence.
