  • On 26 October, MFA Undersecretary of State Bogusław Winid presented valuable archives of Deputy Minister Janusz Szembek to Professor Zdzisław Pietrzyk, Director of the Jagiellonian Library in Krakow. In interwar Poland, Jan Szembek was one of the closest associates of Foreign Minister Józef Beck.

The collection includes a book on the history of the Szembek family, with many illustrations and the family’s genealogy. It was sealed and bound in Paris in the early 19th century. The extensive archives also contain a document dating from 1355 that confirms the family’s annual salary and a 1566 indygenat recognizing foreign nobility of the Szembeks and awarding them privileges  of the Polish gentry. Other valuable documents include a 1706 papal bull and a manuscript from 1313, the oldest in the collection.
