The current situation in Latin America, bilateral relations, and Ecuador’s accession to a trade agreement with the EU were the topics discussed today by Undersecretary of State Katarzyna Kacperczyk and Ecuador’s Deputy Minister for North America and Europe, Jaime Barberis.

“Last year, we celebrated the 90th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between our countries, which is an excellent foundation for further deepening of mutual relations,” stressed Deputy Minister Kacperczyk, pointing to the possibility of cooperation between Poland and Ecuador in the field of infrastructure and new technologies, as well as culture and academic exchanges. The interlocutors noticed that Polish-Ecuadorian friendship is evidenced by the fact that a very large group of Ecuadorian pilgrims is going to Krakow for World Youth Day, and by the great popularity of the temporary consular post in Quito, where nearly two thousand Polish visas have been issued so far.

During the meeting, the parties also discussed the possible waiver of Schengen visas for Ecuadorian citizens, mutual exchange of support in the UN, and the prospects of reopening diplomatic missions in Warsaw and Quito. In addition, Deputy Minister Kacperczyk briefed the Ecuadorian side on priorities of the forthcoming Warsaw NATO summit, and spoke about the EU’s future after the UK referendum.
