On 18 September, Foreign Minister Jacek Czaputowicz accompanied President Andrzej Duda during his trip to Washington.

In the White House, President Andrzej Duda met with United States President Donald Trump. The visit resulted in adopting a declaration entitled “Safeguarding Freedom, Building Prosperity Through Poland-US Strategic Partnership.” Updating and expanding on the provisions of a similar document the two sides adopted in 2008, the declaration defines the framework and prospects of further strengthening cooperation in security, energy, trade, investment, and innovation.

“Clearly, Poland’s voice has been heard,” said Minister Czaputowicz, assessing the US visit. “The adopted declaration creates a framework and fields that now have to be filled in,” he added.

During his visit, Poland’s foreign policy chief met with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo for a Madison Dinner. The format dates back to the fourth US President James Madison (1809-1817), who, along with his wife, would host dinners for leaders and intellectuals to talk about the future of America and the world.

The meeting offered an opportunity to discuss the way forward for transatlantic relations given the numerous new challenges to the community, and to look at prospects of the Poland-US partnership in the light of the talks between the Polish and US presidents.
