During the 11th Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) summit, which was held in Ulaanbaatar in July last year, a decision was made to celebrate an ASEM day on every March 1st.

The past two years have been quite special to that forum - in 2016 we celebrated the 20th anniversary of the founding of ASEM, and 2017 is the 20th anniversary of the creation of ASEF – a foundation associated with ASEM, whose mission is to develop tangible Eurasian projects and intrapersonal relationships. The Foundation acts as a liaison between ASEM and the civil society by promoting intellectual, cultural and interpersonal exchange between the peoples of Asia and Europe. The activities within ASEF complement ASEM’s main goal – being a platform of political and economic dialogue between leaders of European and Asian countries. The ASEM meetings in this formula are attended by 2 organizations (the EU and ASEAN) and 51 countries - inhabited by 60% of the world's population, responsible for 60% of world trade volume and generating 60% of world GDP. ASEM is a unique platform of Eurasian dialogue. This autumn, Myanmar will hold the 13th ASEM Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.

We invite you to follow the webpage of the Asia-Pacific Department, where we announce selected open ASEF/ASEM initiatives.
