    Bilateral cooperation

On 3 December 1979, the Polish People’s Republic and the Republic of San Marino signed an agreement on establishing official relations. On 14 November 1994, a decision was taken to establish diplomatic relations. Poland’s ambassador in Italy serves as Polish diplomatic representative in the Republic of San Marino.

An agreement between the Republic of Poland and the Republic of San Marino on exchange of information on tax matters, based on OECD standards, currently awaits ratification. On September 2016, on the sidelines of the 71st United Nations General Assembly session in New York, Minister of Foreign Affairs W. Waszczykowski met San Marino’s Foreign Minister Pasquale Valentini.

Informal bilateral contacts have taken place, among others, during international conferences and at the UN General Assembly, the Council of Europe and the World Tourism Organisation. Negotiations on the Association Agreement between the EU and Monaco, Andorra and San Marino began in March 2015. Due to San Marino’s nature, Poland’s trade with this country is insignificant and is characterised by limited product diversity. In 2016 bilateral trade was slightly above 36 milion euro. Poland exports plastic, wood, shoes, clothes, and ceramics to San Marino and imports mainly mechanical equipment, cotton, pharmaceutical and chemical products.
