Poland established diplomatic relations with Principality of Monaco in 1990, and in 2007 they were upgraded to the ambassadorial level – Monaco was covered by the territorial competency of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in France, while Monaco’s ambassador in Berlin was accredited to Poland. Consular relations between the two countries were established in 2004.

The Prince and Princess of Monaco paid an official visit to Poland on 17-19 October 2012. In June 2015 the MFA’s Undersecretary of State Henryka Mościcka–Dendys met in Monaco its Foreign Minister Gilles Tonelli and Head of Government (Minister of State) Michel Roger. Informal bilateral contacts have place, among others, during international conferences and within the UN General Assembly, the World Tourism Organisation and the International Organisation of La Francophonie.

The EU’s Association Agreement negotiations with Monaco, Andorra and San Marino began in March 2015.

Due to Monaco’s nature, Poland’s trade with this country is minor, still in 2015 export from Monaco to Poland amounted to EUR 20.7 m (which granted Poland 18th position among the most important buyers of Monaco’s products). The volume of import from Poland totaled EUR 9,8 m (Poland is 17th among leading suppliers of the Principality of Monaco).
