“Sweden is Poland’s important and reliable partner in the Baltic Sea region and the European Union,” the chief of Polish diplomacy underscored during his talks with Swedish Ambassador Stefan Gullgren.

“We are linked by a number of issues, such as Eastern policy, regional security, economic cooperation, and innovative technologies,” observed Minister Witold Waszczykowski.

“I hope that Poland and Sweden will work closely together on the UN Security Council as its non-permanent members in 2018,” said Poland’s foreign policy chief, adding, “We have already had talks on this.” He also took note of progress on the regular revision of the document that defines Polish-Swedish collaboration in strategic areas.

Moreover, Minister Waszczykowski referred to a visit to Georgia he plans to pay together with his Swedish counterpart on 14 November. He recalled that the Eastern Partnership was conceived by Poland and Sweden, which share similar objectives as to its future.

Ambassador Stefan Gullgren presented his credentials on 27 September. Prior to this appointment, he was Head of the Department for Eastern Europe and Central Asia at the Swedish MFA, and served as Swedish Ambassador in Kyiv.
