On 7 February 2018, Minister of Foreign Affairs Jacek Czaputowicz received the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Poland Sergey Andreev at his request.

They discussed the state of bilateral relations, cooperation on the UN Security Council and the dialogue on history.

Poland’s top diplomat underscored that he sees no reason for Russia to continue sequestrating the wreckage of the government plane near Smolensk and expects its return. Minister Czaputowicz further stressed that Poland also expects to be provided free access to the site of the plane crash and cooperation to resume on the construction of the monument to its victims.

Minister Czaputowicz laid out Poland’s plans on the UN Security Council.

He also declared readiness to unblock bilateral contacts in selected areas while stressing the need to modify language and to break with a negative narrative.
