“In addition to our unwavering political support for Ukraine, Poland has been providing humanitarian aid to those people in Ukraine who need it most,” the deputy chief of Polish diplomacy emphasized at a meeting with Kharkiv oblast authorities. “Since late 2013, we have been helping displaced persons, ensuring they have shelter, financial support, food and healthcare.” In Kharkiv, Deputy Minister Wronecka handed over medication, hygiene and food articles, and baby clothes, which will go to close to a thousand people affected by the crisis in Ukraine.
In Kyiv, the Polish deputy minister met with Olena Zerkal, the Deputy Foreign Minister for European Integration. Deputy Minister Wronecka reaffirmed the willingness to continue close collaboration with the Ukrainian government to bring about the country’s successful transformation. “Much progress has been done over the past two years. A number of important reforms have been carried out or launched, with new institutions and legal framework being set up,” noted the deputy minister.
Moreover, the deputy chief of Polish diplomacy met with the Minister of Regional Development, Building and Housing and Communal Services. The agenda included Polish support for Ukraine’s decentralisation and local government reform. The deputy minister also held talks with the EU’s ambassador in Kyiv, UN officials, representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross, the Maltese Relief Service, and the Polish Humanitarian Organization (PAH).
Ukraine is one of Polish development aid’s priority countries. The MFA is estimated to have allocated over PLN 30.67 million to Ukraine in 2016. Support covers cooperation in implementing key reforms in such fields as local government, education, and fighting corruption. Measures are also being put in place to foster the local private sector and entrepreneurship.
