• Faithful to my Homeland, the Republic of Poland

  • On February 1 2017, the Polish Embassy in Beijing identified two defective memory code references in reports by the Chinese media on the 72nd anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp: in the title and description of the video posted on the website of CCTV state television as well as in the title of an article on the "Beijing Ribao" portal (Beijing Daily).

In both cases a term was used which, due to the nature of the Chinese language, can have several meanings: the Polish concentration camp [in] Auschwitz/Oswiecim, the concentration camp Auschwitz [located] in Poland, the Polish concentration camp in [the city of] Auschwitz. Each of the possible translations contain an incorrect shorthand for indicating that the Auschwitz camp was a Polish camp or located in the territory of sovereign Poland.

The diplomatic mission took immediate action and telephoned the editorial offices of both portals, which led to the removal of the erroneous terms, both on the CCTV2 portal and "Beijing Ribao".
