Warsaw international conference: ‘NATO’s New Strategic Concept – Global, Transatlantic and Regional Challenges and Tasks Ahead’

On March 12th the Warsaw Royal Castle was host to the third international annual conference on NATO and international security: ‘NATO’s New Strategic Concept – Global, Transatlantic and Regional Challenges and Tasks Ahead’, organised jointly by the Centre for International Relations and the Defence Ministry in cooperation with NATO Headquarters to celebrate the 11th anniversary of Poland’s accession to NATO.

The conference was an opportunity to analyse a range of aspects of NATO’s necessary adaptation to new goals, threats and challenges. The conference also covered the work of the Expert Group (attended by Professor Adam Rotfeld) whose Report will have an important bearing on the ultimate proposals to be submitted in 2010 to NATO member countries by its Secretary General.

During the conference Poland’s Defence Minister Bogdan Klich delivered the opening speech, followed by an address by Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski and speeches by leading international security experts. The conference’s key note speech was delivered by NATO’s Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen. The event attended by over 200 politicians, diplomats, servicemen and experts from both Europe and the US, as well as NATO’s allies and partners from Central and Eastern Europe.
