A ceremony of the signing of the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Poland and the Government of the Kingdom of Sweden on mutual visa representation was held in Warsaw on March 3rd 2010. The Agreement was signed by MFA Under-Secretary of State Andrzej Kremer and the Swedish Ambassador to Warsaw Dag Hartelius.
It is the third such agreement entered into by Poland. Thus far analogous agreements have been signed with the Republic of Slovenia and the Republic of Estonia. Additionally, talks on visa representation are underway between Poland and Slovakia, Hungary, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Germany, Finland and France.
Visa representation is the cooperation under the common visa policy of the EU Member States belonging to the Schengen Area. Under the Community regulations representation is carried out by diplomatic and consular posts of one EU Member State issuing visas on behalf of another EU Member State.
Visa representation may also be limited to providing visa information for citizens, making appointments with the Consul, running interviews, accepting and forwarding visa applications, collecting data (including biometric data), and collecting statutory fees.
Under the Agreement, Poland and Sweden shall determine the competent diplomatic and consular posts authorised to implement the provisions. Accordingly, the Kingdom of Sweden will be represented by Poland in Kaliningrad (the Russian Federation), and Poland will be represented by Sweden in Dhaka (the People's Republic of Bangladesh).
