On 8th May 2008, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland, Mr Radosław Sikorski, visited Denmark.
During his stay in Copenhagen, Minister R. Sikorski met the Danish Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Per Stig Moller, as well as the Committee for Foreign Affairs of the Danish Parliament, the Folketing. Their talks focused on the issues related to the implementation of the Lisbon Treaty, energy and climate problems and the European Neighbourhood Policy.
The parties agreed that they hold unanimous points of view. Minister Sikorski thanked Denmark for its support of Wrocław’ as a candidate city for the seat of the European Institute of Technology. The meeting with the Foreign Affairs Committee of Folketing was dominated by issues of international security, the implications of the NATO summit in Bucharest and the situation in Belarus and Kosovo.
During his stay in Copenhagen, Minister Sikorski gave an interview on the public television channel, DR, and attended a meeting at the Danish Association for Foreign Affairs.
During a speech at the Association, Minister Sikorski presented a synthesis of the political and social changes in the history of contemporary Poland and, referring to the exposé of the previous day, he also made mention of the most important issues currently facing foreign policy. During the meeting, the Minister replied to a number of questions from the audience, which focused, among others topics, on the situation in Belarus, the anti-rocket shield, the sea port in Elbląg, Polish-Danish relations, the implementation of the Lisbon Treaty , the future of Russia under the new leadership, military stabilisation missions and ethnical minorities both in Poland and in terms of Polish minorities abroad.
