Twenty years ago, on 13 January 1992, the Republic of Poland and the Republic of Lithuania signed in Vilnius the Declaration on friendly relations and neighborly cooperation. The document became the basis for a Polish-Lithuanian Treaty signed by the Presidents of Poland and Lithuania on 26 April 1994.
The signing of the declaration was possible thanks to the determination and resolve of the Ministers: Krzysztof Skubiszewski and Algirdas Saudargas. Two decades from this historic moment the Declaration remains a proof that the Polish-Lithuanian relations may be based on mutual respect and friendship. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland hopes that the will which had led to the signing of the Declaration lives on.
