Polish and German foreign ministers in Kiev

2009.06.18
On June 17 2009 the foreign ministers of Poland and Germany, Radosław Sikorski and Frank-Walter Steinmeier,  paid a working visit to Kiev.

The two ministers met President V. Yushchenko, Prime Minister Y. Tymoshenko, Supreme Rada Speaker  V. Litvin, and  presidential candidates in the upcoming elections, Party of Regions leader V. Yaukovich  and former Supreme Rada Speaker  A. Yatsenyuk.

The talks focused on Ukraine’s internal situation, also in the context of the world economic crisis, as well as Kiev’s relations with the European Union  and other international entities. During the meetings the foreign ministers of Poland and Germany presented Eastern Partnership projects in which Ukraine could participate.

The current visit echoes a visit to Kiev in 2005  by the foreign ministers of the two countries, A. D. Rotfeld and J. Fischer.  It had the aim of signaling the political significance which the member states of the EU and NATO attach to Ukraine.
