Following the Haiti earthquake and its fatal consequences Poland has so far donated aid worth of PLN6 mln. The nature of aid was determined on the basis of reports by international humanitarian actors operating on the crisis scene. These reports indicated that the most efficient way to extend relief aid was through directly sending self-sufficient and professionally equipped groups of rescue workers with material aid in the form of medications and food supplies.
The Polish aid for the injured in Haiti earthquake includes:
- in-kind assistance to the value of PLN 5 million, constituting the costs of sending two government aircraft and 54 certified rescue workers with search dogs and heavy SAR equipment, donors’ gifts such as medications and food;
- cash aid worth of PLN 700.000, including payment totalling USD 50.000 to the International Committee of the Red Cross, and payment of USD 200.000 to the World Food Programme, in cooperation with Poland’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland reports that the above figures do not include the contributions following from Poland’s membership in the EU and the UN, or the value of cash or in-kind contributions by NGOs or private individuals. Poland’s relief aid is arranged and coordinated in consultation with the EU and the UN.
