On 1st July 2008 Poland took over the presidency of the Visegrád Group for the next 12 months. Our leadership motto is: Solidarity in the Region – Together for Democracy.
Stepping into the presidency of the Group, Poland would like the alliance to be a more recognisable symbol of our region, within the European Union as well. One outstanding achievement of the states making up the Group is to have successfully completed the transformation of their political systems. The invaluable worth of this is the capital on which the Visegrád Group will draw, creating a vision of an active European Neighbourhood Policy, particularly in the form of the Eastern Partnership and in supporting the EU aspirations of the Western Balkans.
The programme for the Polish presidency is correlated with the most important challenges the EU will face during the presidencies of France and the Czech Republic, the first Visegrád Group state to lead the EU.
