During meetings held on 11 and 25 June, 2008, the Parliamentary Ethics Committee examined the motion submitted by the Parliamentary Club Prawo i Sprawiedliwość regarding a statement made by Radosław Sikorski MP during a press conference held on 17 March, 2008.
Having heard the representatives of both the applicants and of Radosław Sikorski MP, the Committee reached the decision to dismiss the motion. The Committee assumed that Minister Sikorski’s statement did not refer directly to members of the Parliamentary Club Prawo i Sprawiedliwość, but to that section of the opposition which had made clearly negative remarks regarding the Lisbon Treaty. The Committee maintained that the forceful nature of the Minister’s statement may be justified by the fact that the press conference was held before the Parliamentary vote on the Sejm’s adoption of the act to approve ratification of the Lisbon Treaty amending the Treaty on European Union and signed on 13 December 2007 by the President of the Polish Republic, and held that the statement was made with the purpose of protecting Poland’s raison d'état.
