Radosław Sikorski was born in Bydgoszcz in 1963. He is a Bachelor and Master of Arts of Oxford University in philosophy, political sciences and economics (PPE).

He was chairman of the Students’ Strike Committee during the events in Bydgoszcz in March 1981. R. Sikorski spent  1981-1989  in Great Britain as a political refugee. In 1986-1989 he worked as a reporter covering the wars in Afghanistan and Angola.

In 1992, As Deputy Defence Minister, R. Sikorski was involved in  efforts to bring about Poland’s accession to NATO.  In 1998-2001 he was an Under-Secretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the Council of the Foundation for Assistance to Poles in the East.

In 2002-2005 he was a resident fellow at the American Institute of Enterprise in Washington and Executive Director of the New Atlantic Initiative. R. Sikorski is the editor of “European Outlook”, a cycle of analytical publications, and organizer of international conferences on UN reform, the future of NATO and the 25^th anniversary of Solidarity. He has testified as an Atlantic affairs expert before the Committee on Foreign Affairs  of the US House of Representatives.

He is the author of the following books: “Prochy świętych – podróż do Heratu w czas wojny”, “The Polish House – an Intimate History of Poland” and “Strefa zdekomunizowana – wywiad rzeka”. 

He was  Senator for  Bydgoszcz in 2005-2007 (6^th term of the Senate).

In 2005-2007 R. Sikorski  served as Minister of National Defence.

In 1988,  his pictures from Afghanistan won a prize  in the World Press Photo competition, in the category of news photography.

R. Sikorski was “Man of the Year 2005” of Gazeta Polska and a laureate of   “Wiktor 2006” , in the category of the most popular politician. He holds the “Merited for Culture” medal.

He was elected to Parliament in 2007 (6^th term of the Sejm), running as a  Civic Platform candidate.

Radosław Sikorski is married to journalist and writer Anne Applebaum, who won the 2004 Pulitzer prize for her book “Gulag: A History”. They have two sons: Aleksander and Tadeusz.
