Department of History. Professor of humanities.
1966-1968 - on the staff of the Polish Institute of International Affairs. Expelled from the Institute after the events of March 1968. Former chief editor of the historical monthly “Mówią Wieki” (Centuries Speak). Faculty member of the Warsaw University branch in Białystok, deputy rector of the State Drama Academy in Warsaw. During martial law helped victimized students. Published under pseudonym in illegal opposition press.
Since December 1992 - at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, among others, as director of the Department of Europe, twice as under-secretary of state, and from 1996 – as ambassador of the RP to the French Republic. From 2002 - ambassador of the RP to the Russian Federation.
Lecturer specializing in modern history, grantee of universities and research institutes in France, Holland and the US. Author of numerous books and essays on the modern history of Poland and Europe, and the history of diplomacy. His books include “Rewolucja w dolinie Loary” (Revolution in the Valley of the Loire), “Kamila Desmoulins” (Camille Desmoulins), “Pożegnanie z rewolucją” (A Farewell to the Revolution), and “Rewolucja francuska 1789-94” (French Revolution 1789-94), co-authored with Prof. Jan Baszkiewicz. In 1973 published a collection of poems titled “Wszystko na chwilę” (Everthing Flees).
Spoke French, English, German and Russian.
