Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski is today, 1 December, chairing the EU-Georgia Cooperation Council in Brussels. The talks will cover a range of issues, including the cooperation between the European Union and Georgia, which has recently been on the increase, as well as Georgia’s participation in the EU Eastern Partnership programme.
Discussion will also focus on the progress in the association agreement under negotiation and the prospects for starting talks on establishing the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area. The Council will also address the subjects of Georgia’s domestic situation predating the next year’s parliamentary elections, the region of the South Caucasus and further steps towards the the system of visa liberalisation.
Minister Radosław Sikorski will be accompanied by senior EU officials, including Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighbourhood Policy Stefan Füle, EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the crisis in Georgia Ambassador Philippe Lefort and Polish diplomats. Georgia will be represented by Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze.
Also today, Brussels is to host a bilateral meeting of Foreign Ministers: Sikorski and Vashadze. The Ministers will discuss bilateral relations, the EU-Georgia relations and Euro-Atlantic cooperation.
