Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski attended the international conference on Afghanistan ‘From Transition to Transformation’ on 5 December 2011 in Bonn. The conference came ten years after the signing of the first Bonn agreement on Afghanistan and was chaired by the Afghan President Hamid Karzai.
The delegates addressed some of the civil aspects of the takeover of responsibility for the country by the Afghan government as well as the international community’s involvement in Afghanistan after 2014.
Speaking at a plenary session, Minister Sikorski said: ‘Afghanistan must streamline its political process and include in it the widest spectrum of power. Regional powers should help Afghanistan. The international community must not leave you’. Minister Sikorski also mentioned the in-service training for 50 Afghan officials that has recently begun in Warsaw.
While at the Bonn conference, Minister Sikorski also held bilateral talks with his Chinese and Ukrainian counterparts: Yang Jiechi and Kostyantyn Hryshchenko.
The Polish and Chinese Diplomacy Chiefs discussed preparations for the visit to China of President Bronisław Komorowski, scheduled for mid-December. Minister Yang invited Minister Sikorski to visit China next year.
