On 10th December, the inaugural Meeting of the Executives of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Poland and Ukraine took place. Heading the delegations were the Ministers of Foreign Affairs: Minister Radosław Sikorski for the Polish delegation, and Minister Volodymyr Ohryzko for the Ukrainian delegation. The meeting was an expression of Polish-Ukrainian partnership relations and the aspiration of the state authorities in Kiev to shape and consolidate the pro-European direction of foreign policy based on a strategic relationship with Poland.
The objective of the meeting of the executives of the Polish and Ukrainian foreign ministries was to discuss cooperation regarding global challenges in security policy, European integration and to develop a joint position regarding methods of resolving mutual problems regarding economic cooperation, history and culture as well as improving mechanisms for political dialogue at different levels based on mutual contacts among political representatives in both foreign ministries.
The meeting was also an occasion to present historical exhibits stolen from Polish museums (Great Sash Star of the Order of Virtuti Militari from 1809, Great Cross of the Order of the Legion of Honour from 1809, a historical goblet and the Order of St. Stanislaus), found in Ukraine and handed over by the Ukrainian authorities on the 9th of this month.
