Meeting of the Community of Democracies Task Force for Moldova

The first meeting of the Community of Democracies Task Force for Moldova was held on 7 December 2011 in Washington. It is a new initiative of the Community of Democracies, aimed at supporting emerging democracy in Moldova. Poland and the United States co-chair the Task Force. The meeting was co-headed by Undersecretary of State Jerzy Pomianowski and US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s Senior Advisor for Civil Society and Emerging Democracies Tomicah Tillemann.

During the meeting representatives of nineteen states and eleven NGOs discussed mechanisms for supporting reforms in Moldova in the following areas: judicial reform, local government, transparency of government, security sector reform and migration policies. The projects will be carried out building on the resources and expertise of the countries constituting the Community of Democracies.

Undersecretary of State Jerzy Pomianowski and Senior Advisor Tomicah Tillemann presented the initiative and the results of the meeting in an interview for the Foreign Policy magazine and Radio Free Europe.

While in Washington, Undersecretary of State Pomianowski held political consultations with the representatives of the US Department of State, specifically: Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Robert O. Blake and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Daniel A. Russell.
