On Feb. 25th MFA Secretary of State for European Affairs Mikołaj Dowgielewicz chaired the Polish delegation to the Budapest summit dedicated to the European strategy for the Danube region. The summit was attended by Prime Ministers of: Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Croatia, Moldova, Serbia, as well as Austria’s Federal Chancellor and the EU Commissioner for Regional Policy. During the summit Secretary of State Mikołaj Dowgielewicz met Hungary’s MFA Secretary of State for the EU Tibor Kiss.
The European strategy for the Danube region is the second macro-regional EU strategy (along with the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region, adopted in October 2009). In accordance to the 18-19 June 2009 Conclusions of the European Council, by the end of 2010 the European Commission is expected to draft the strategy.
