In connection with an edition of the daily newspaper The Sun in which the untrue phrase “Polish gas chamber” was used, the Polish Ambassador to London, Mrs Barbara Tuge-Erecińska, sent a letter to the newspaper’s editor demanding an immediate correction of this incorrect information.
The Ambassador has also contacted a British law chamber in order to prepare a letter to the Press Complaints Commission and to investigate the possibility of taking appropriate legal steps in the event that the newspaper refuses to publish a correction.
On 18th June, a meeting is planned between the Ambassador and Mr W. Moszczyński, Vice-President of the Federation of Poles in Great Britain, the aim of which is to consider the Embassy and the Federation taking joint action in the event of the appearance of further articles of this type. The issue of articles appearing in the British media presenting Polish history in a untrue way or charging our country with responsibility for Nazi crimes committed during World War II will also be discussed during a meeting between an Embassy representative and Dr. A. Whitehead MP, Chairman of the British-Polish Parliamentary Group.
