On 14 December 2006. the first day of the European Council Summit in Brussels, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Mrs. Anna Fotyga accompanied the President of the Republic of Poland, Mr. Lech Kaczyński at the meetings with the President of the European Commission Mr Jose Manuel Barroso and the President of the European Parliament Mr Josep Borell. Both Mrs. Fotyga and Mr. Kaczyński participated in the first working session of the European Council.

      The main issues discussed during the session regarded the further enlargement of the EU, improvement of the decision-making process related to the cooperation in the area of justice and home affairs, as well as questions concerning migration.

      In the evening, dinners for the Heads of State and Government as well as for the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the EU Member States were held.

      On December 15 the European Council Summit will adopt its final conclusions.
