The Ministry of Foreign Affairs informs that on 2nd December 2008 the Special Envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs regarding the Polish citizen abducted in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Ambassador Zenon Kuchciak, was received for an audience with the President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari. The Envoy was accompanied by the Charge d’Affaires at the Polish Embassy in Islamabad, Wiesław Kucharek. Also taking part from the Pakistani side were the Head of the President’s Office, Salman Farooqi, Secretary of State in the Ministry of Interior, Syed Kamal Shah as well as Under-Secretary of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Akbar Zeb.
The aim of the meeting was for the Special Envoy to deliver a humanitarian message from the Polish President, Lech Kaczyński, the content of which refers to the case of the Polish citizen abducted in Pakistan on 28th September 2008 by Muslim extremists. The delivery of the document aims to bring to the attention of the highest state authorities in Pakistan the importance that the Polish authorities attach to the case of the abducted Polish citizen and to urge the Pakistani authorities to continue active and intensified efforts to release the abducted Pole.
The Special Envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs regarding the Polish citizen abducted in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan travelled to Pakistan at the end of November 2008. The Special Envoy’s tasks include supporting the Polish Embassy in contacts with the Pakistani authorities, underlining the importance that Poland attaches to his release and conducting talks aimed at increasing the effectiveness of activities carried out in this regard.
