On 11 March 2008, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Rados³aw Sikorski had a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Mr. Achmed Abul Gheit.
The topics of the meeting included the bilateral relations and the issues associated with the power industry, army and tourism. The importance of the cultural and research cooperation was emphasised and, in particular, the accomplishments of the Polish archaeologists who in 2007 celebrated the 70th anniversary of working in Egypt. During the meeting also discussed was the question of Poland’s and Egypt’s involvement in the resolution of the Middle East problems and the actions undertaken by both countries, among other things, in Iraq and Afghanistan. The discussion also embraced the selected international problems, such as the situation in Kosovo, the installation of the anti-missile system, and EU operations in Chad – assistance for the refugees from Darfur and the crisis surrounding the Iran nuclear programme.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt visited Poland from 10 to 12 March 2008 as a member of the delegation accompanying the President of Egypt Mr. Hosni Mubarak who was on official visit to Poland at the invitation of the President of the Republic of Poland Mr. Lech Kaczyñski.
