The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reminds that on 1 January 2009 the rules for Polish citizens travelling to Canada without a visa change. Only people holding biometric passports (issued since 28 August 2006) can take advantage of visa-free travel. Remaining people who do not hold biometric passports will be required to obtain a visa to enter Canada.
Please be reminded that Polish biometric passports have been issued since 28 August 2006 – the document has a claret-coloured cover on which the words Unia Europejska and Rzeczpospolita Polska are written in Polish; in the centre is the national emblem of Poland, and the words Paszport in Polish, Passport in English and Passeport in French are written on the lower part of the cover.
The following characteristic sign indicates that the documents has biometric properties:
Only this type of passport will entitle the holder to travel to Canada without a visa from 1 January 2009.
Temporary passports (issued in Poland by a Province Governor and abroad by a consul) do not have biometric properties and, therefore, will not entitle the holder to travel to Canada without a visa.
