On 16th April, “Unión Radio” radio station, reaching almost every part of Venezuela, transmitted news that during his visit to the Republic of Poland, the President of Israel would visit the “Polish concentration camp of Treblinka”.
Regarding the said matter, the Ambassador of the Republic of Poland in Caracas has sent an intervention letter to the newscaster of the radio station, in which he explained the nature of the mistake and demanded an appropriate correction to be aired during the same, highly popular, morning news block.
On 25th April “Unión Radio” broadcasted the correction requested by the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in its morning news programme. Quoting the letter of the Ambassador, the radio station stated the following:
The phrasing ‘Polish concentration camp of Treblinka’ is a major distortion of historical facts, as concentration camps, established during World War II in German-occupied Poland, were organised by Nazi Germany. Thus these were actually German concentration camps and should never be referred to as Polish.
Director of “Unión Radio”, Mr Antonio Servati, apologised to the Ambassador of the Republic of Poland during a telephone conversation and explained that "the totally inappropriate phrasing" resulted from incorrect information provided by the news agencies.
