It is with great sadness that we learned of the news of the series of large-scale and brutal terrorist attacks which occurred in Mumbai on 26th November 2008, resulting in the death and injury of both Indian and foreign nationals. We have already sent our sympathy to the Indian government. Fortunately, there were no Polish citizens among the victims of the terrorist attacks.
Our country strongly condemns all acts of violence which cause loss of lives and property, regardless of their underlying aims and motives. We support the unwavering fight against terrorism, its sources and any form of assistance whatsoever. We categorically reject the escalation of hatred and religious and racial prejudice propagated by the leaders of terrorist groups. Their beliefs run contrary to the religious teachings of Christianity, Islam, Hinduism and Buddhism, as well as to the principles of peaceful coexistence and respect for universal values.
Events such as the terrorist attacks in Mumbai or the recent instances of kidnapping in Pakistan and Somalia prove that Poland must seriously engage in the fight against international terrorism by actively participating in anti-terrorist coalitions and stabilisation missions within the framework of our country’s cooperation with NATO and the European Union. We have been far from indifferent to the latest events and our standpoint will not change. We hope that, thanks to the united effort of people of good will, violence and terror will be completely eradicated.
