The 9th Polish-German Intergovernmental Consultations will be held in Warsaw on 9th December 2008, under the chairmanship of Donald Tusk, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland, and Angela Merkel, the Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany.
        Matters to be covered during the consultations are the status of mutual relations between the two countries, the strengthening of the dialogue between Warsaw and Berlin and the tightening of cooperation within the framework of the European Union. Issues such as acting to prevent adverse climate change, energy security and the Eastern Partnership will top the agenda of matters to be debated.  Ms Merkel and Mr Tusk will also discuss the impact of the financial and economic crisis on the bilateral cooperation. 
        The consultations are to be held with the participation of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, National Defence, the Interior, Economy, the Environment, Culture, Education and Health, as well as the Deputy Ministers of Science and of Justice.
        The consultations will also provide the opportunity for Radosław Sikorski and Frank-Walter Steinmeier, the Ministers of Foreign Affairs for Poland and Germany respectively, to present the 2008 award for an outstanding contribution to the development of Polish-German relations. This year’s joint winners are Poland’s Krzyżowa Foundation for Mutual Understanding in Europe and Germany’s Action Reconciliation Service for Peace.
